This page shows where to find "official" information about Paradox and the Borland Database Engine (BDE).

Corel Corporation is the current publisher of Paradox. Most of their services are online; here's a small sample of what they provide:

  • Product Information: Paradox is currently only provided with Professional Editions of Corel's WordPerfect Office 2002.

  • Support Services: Corel offers an online KnowledgeBase, Patches, moderated Newsgroups, and Technical Support Alternatives.

  • Ordering or upgrading to the latest version: Corel's online store lets you purchase new licenses of the latest version and also lists a number of online vendors that also sell their products. Search the latter sources for upgrades.

  • Ordering or upgrading previous versions: Older versions of Paradox can be hard to locate. For best results, search the various online auction sites (such as eBay) for used copies. (Be sure to exercise all appropriate cautions before ordering. For example, remember that Paradox is only included in Professional versions of WordPerfect Office.)

EMS sometimes has older versions available (including versions of Paradox/DOS), however, they generally charge full list price.

Borland (formerly Inprise Corporation) is the current publisher of the Borland Database Engine, as well as several development environments (e.g. Delphi, C++ Builder, JBuilder, and so on).

  • BDE Updates can be found here.

  • Their Community pages contain their online support, FAQ's, and TI's. Some of these can help troubleshoot Paradox related problems.

  • Their Code Central section is a database of sample code and related information. If you're having problem designing a particular algorithm, check here. Many of these samples can be adapted to ObjectPAL.

You should be aware that Borland has specifically announced that they will no longer update BDE. While Corel has not publically announced how this affects their Paradox plans, it's generally assumed that they will continue to use BDE until they're able to re-engineer Paradox to use a different database engine.

Note: If you have trouble locating the information you need from the official sites, be sure to check out other Resources, especially our Favorites.
