Our Favorite Paradox Sites

Here are our favorite sites for Paradox-related information, the ones we use for information and samples:

  1. The DB Community, which features numerous articles written by other Paradox users and developers, hosts copies of the Paradox FAQ's published by Corel, provides unmoderated newsgroups for obtaining additional support, and posts classified ads for consultants and other Paradox related services.

  2. WordPerfect Universe is an online community for Corel WordPerfect. It offers online forums for posting questions regarding any software in the suite, including Paradox.

  3. Tek-Tips is an online forum that provides numerous areas devoted to specific software products and services, including Paradox.

  4. Mike Irwin has long maintained the Paradox FAQ's for Corel's newgroups and recently posted them, along with many other useful bits of information, to a section of his own site. Highly recommended reading.

  5. Resource Development Associates is a Paradox consultancy and add-in publisher. Their Paradox Resource Page contains numerous links, articles, and code samples that are terribly useful.

  6. Vladimir Menkin's home page provides links to great utilities (including some useful freebies) and code samples.

  7. Pascal Hutton's site offers many excellent examples showing how to use the Windows API from your Paradox applications, including things that have been traditionally thought "impossible."

  8. The BDE Support Pages provide excellent information regarding BDE configuration, stability, and information. This is the site Borland should have created when BDE was first released.

  9. While Paradoxgruppen is predominately written in Swedish, it provides several examples and documents in English, including the ever-useful Paradox bug lists.

  10. Corel's KnowledgeBase is hard to navigate, but contains a wealth of useful Paradox materials, including FAQ's and TI's originally published by Borland. The Paradox area of Corel's FTP site is also well worth exploring.

Tip: The KnowlegeBase search engine only provides up to ten pages of hits. You can choose their "next>>" link to display additional matches.

  11. Google's Usenet archive contains more than twenty years of Usenet messages and is an excellent way to find answers, tips, and information related to Paradox.

For best results, limit your queries to newsgroups whose names match "*paradox*".

We also use a couple of other sites to locate Paradox-related information:

  • The Internet Archive stores copies of websites and can frequently help locate material that's no longer published on the web. For example, you can use it to find support information originally published on Borland's site, some as well as copies of Dan Ehrmann's now-legendary Paradox Papers.

Be aware that the Archive tracks URL's, not content. So you need to know where your information was located before you can find it. Also, the site requires JavaScript to function properly.

  • abebooks.com is a portal for used bookstores. Its search engine helps you locate out of print titles and other hard to find materials. It's very useful for locating third-party Paradox books that are not longer published. To demonstrate this, do a title search for "Paradox for Windows" (which returns 218 matches, as of this writing).

Please don't be offended if your favorite site or service isn't listed on this page. These are simply the ones we find most useful.
