Question: When I try to print, I get the following error and the printing processed normally. What does it mean and how do I fix this?

PFPS Initialization Failed

Answer: Something has corrupted your installation of Corel's PerfectFit Print Services libraries, which are installed by most Corel applications. This can be caused by several things, including:

  • Forgetting to reboot after reinstalling Paradox and applying patches.

  • Installing an older version of software including the PFPS libraries (e.g. WordPerfect Office, Corel Draw, et al).

  • Removing Corel software without using the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel applet.

  • Other environmental factors that corrupt the Registry or DLL files in WINDOWS\SYSTEM (or SYSTEM32, for NT-based versions).

To resolve the error, run the pfreg.exe utility provided with your latest Corel software. This can be found in the programs folder in the installation directories. The specific directory path depends on the software you're using. For example, if you're using a copy of Paradox provided with WordPerfect Office 2000 and have installed the software to its default directories, you can find pfreg.exe in C:\Program Files\Corel\WordPerfect Office\Programs.

If you have trouble locating pfreg.exe, using Windows' Find Files to locate it. Search your C: drive and make certain that the Include Subfolders checkbox is checked.

Once you've located pfreg.exe using Windows Explorer or Find Files, simply double-click it to repair your Registry settings. Please note that you'll need to restart Windows for your changes to take effect.
